Remembering Debbie Ford

I was blessed to interview Debbie a couple of times and enjoyed our conversations so much that I wanted to share them with you.
Years ago I hosted an internet radio show called, “Enlightening Relationships.” Each week, my cohost and longtime friend, Eric Trueheart, and I would interview a different relationship expert.
My dear friend, Arielle Ford, introduced me to her sister, Debbie Ford, and we had an amazing conversation with her about her beautiful book, Spiritual Divorce: Divorce as a Catalyst for an Extraordinary Life.
It was so powerful that Eric and I were thrilled to do it again when her next book, Why People Do Bad Things came out a year later.
When the sad news hit last week, I dug out these old interviews and was just blown away all over again…
In the first one, Debbie’s shares how to get over the heartbreak of a breakup (whether it’s a divorce or not).
Highlights of our talk include:
- Why resisting what’s happening is the cause of our suffering – how to surrender to the truth of your life without giving up or being too passive…
- Why denying the truth of your “shadow” feelings (like anger, shame, hurt, etc.) never works, and makes them worse and more long-lasting…
- Processes to help you truly forgive your ex. and reframe what happened so you’re actually grateful it all did (I know – it sounds too good to be true, but it works!)…

And in this second interview, about her book Why Good People Do Bad Things, Debbie dives into “the Shadow Process” and explains why it’s so important that we all do our inner work, revealing:
- How “the split” occurs in all of us if we’re not telling the truth of who we are to ourselves – causing us to self-sabotage, hurt those we love most, and “numb out” through addictions and compulsive behaviors…
- How by denying our more base, negative emotions it’s as if we’re all trying to hold down a beach ball under water (and the enormous energy that drains from us) and the sad truth that many of us are trying to hold down multiple beach balls at once – with disastrous consequences…
- How to embrace all of our multi-faceted selves, and live happier, more authentic lives than ever before…

Debbie literally made the world a better place, and will undoubtedly live on in the lives of all she touched for many years to come.
My heart goes out to my friend, Arielle Ford… She and Debbie were so connected, and their lives and work were so intertwined. They’ve always reminded me so much of my sister, Linda Sivertsen, and myself…
My sister and I shared a weep over Debbie – mostly thinking of Arielle and her incredible loss.
In honor of the incredible gift it is to have a GREAT sister, I’d love to share my sister’s world with you. Find out all the ways she can offer amazing support to your publishing dreams no matter if you’re a brand-new writer or seasoned pro - Here
